Coca-Cola Consolidated invests $25m in US plant

Coca-Cola Consolidated's $25 million investment in its West Memphis, Arkansas facility marks a significant step in enhancing production capabilities. With the addition of a fourth bottling line, the facility will increase its annual capacity from 26 million to 29 million cases, reflecting a strong commitment to meeting growing consumer demand 📈. The introduction of blow mold production equipment allows the facility to manufacture plastic bottles in-house, streamlining operations and promoting sustainability by using 100% recycled plastic preforms. US business group calls on Biden to avert port strike set to hit agri-food trade

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has urged President Biden to intervene in ongoing contract negotiations to avert a potential strike by the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA), set for October 1. The American Farm Bureau Federation warns that a strike could disrupt East and Gulf Coast ports, risking billions in agri-food exports and imports. They estimate a week-long disruption could cost around $318 million in containerized agricultural exports alone. 

With ILA-controlled ports handling 46% of containerized agricultural exports—valued at over $1.4 billion weekly—key products like poultry, cotton, and dairy would be severely affected, potentially lowering prices for producers and impacting consumers. The Federation highlights that a strike could create backlogs, eroding farm profitability and causing shortages for perishable goods 📉. Urging for a resolution, the Chamber emphasized the need for both parties to remain engaged until a final agreement is reached.
