11 Feb 2024, Reuters
The Della Valle family, founders of Italian luxury shoemaker Tod's, along with L Catterton, a private equity firm backed by LVMH, are making a second attempt to take Tod's private. L Catterton highlights benefits like enhanced management flexibility and cost reduction. They propose buying 36% of Tod's at β¬43 per share, a 17.6% premium, valuing the company at β¬1.4 billion. Tod's CEO Diego Della Valle sees delisting as a strategic move.
In 2022, a similar attempt failed due to insufficient ownership. Diego Della Valle will tender his 10.45% stake, retaining 54%. LVMH maintains its 10% stake. L Catterton plans to merge Tod's if the tender offer fails. Tod's owns brands like Roger Vivier and Fay. π₯ΏπΌπ

Brita Snaps Up Smart Water Bottle Startup, Larq
8 Feb 2024, Tech Crunch
Larq, the smart water bottle company, has been acquired by filtration giant Brita, specifically by Brita GmbH, the German company founded in 1966. This move marks Brita's reentry into the American market using Larq's brand. Larq, known for its UV light-equipped bottles, offers a digital-first approach, while Brita aims to boost its online presence. Larq's CEO, Justin Wang, sees potential in merging innovation with Brita's expertise in filters. Despite Clorox's dominance in the U.S. market, Larq and Brita are poised for innovation. Larq will continue its product line while exploring collaborations with Brita. This acquisition sets the stage for a compelling competition, leveraging Larq's digital edge with Brita's filtration legacy. π°π‘π

Why Amazon Is Turning To Resale To Build Its Luxury Business

Amazon expands its luxury offerings by teaming up with HEWI, offering pre-owned designer items across Europe. The collaboration brings luxury fashion closer to customers, with items ranging from Β£85 Tiffany scarves to Β£26,250 Hermes bags. This move follows Amazon's 2020 launch of Luxury Stores and recent partnerships like What Goes Around Comes Around in the U.S. It taps into the booming β¬30 billion luxury resale market, providing accessible luxury options.
