Berkeley-based Ripple Foods secured $49 million in a recent funding round, reaching a total funding of over $274 million. The plant-based milk company, founded in 2014, distinguishes itself by utilizing innovative technology to create 'Ripptein,' a neutral-tasting protein from yellow peas. The process allows Ripple to boost protein content to 8g per 8oz serving while reducing sugar to 6g, making it an allergen-friendly, kid-friendly option with 50% more calcium than dairy milk. The company's recent success, especially in its kids' milk with added omega-3s, contributed to its 'explosive growth' and consumer loyalty, according to CEO Laura Flanagan.

☕ Suntory invests multimillion dollars in beanless coffee 💸

Suntory Holdings Ltd. has made a multimillion-dollar investment in eco-conscious coffee startup Atomo Coffee Inc., which produces coffee using dates and sunflower seeds instead of beans. The undisclosed investment aims to support Atomo's mission to reduce deforestation and environmental impacts in coffee production. The coffee industry is vulnerable to climate change, affecting arabica bean growth. Atomo's processing facility in Southern California, set to be the world's largest, will process up to 12 million date pits annually. The company plans to open a roastery in March and will sell its beanless coffee through partnerships with coffee shops, starting with Gumption Coffee in New York in December.

💧 Hydration Beverage ROAR Organic secures $6 million in fresh capital 💰

ROAR Organic has raised $6 million in its latest funding round, reaching a total funding of approximately $26 million. The hydration brand, founded by Roly Nesi in 2013, experienced a 116% gross revenue increase in 2022. The funds will support the company's retail expansion. ROAR Organic's electrolyte-infused sports beverages, based on proprietary coconut water, are available in various flavors and sold in major U.S. retailers. The company introduced ROAR Plus, on-the-go hydration powders, and engaged in partnerships with Peloton instructor Jess Sims and the Professional Pickleball Association. The global electrolyte drinks market is estimated to reach $58.97 billion by 2032.
