Snap's New Report Reveals the Growing Potential of Augmented Reality for Marketing

All brands should think about the potential for their marketing and promotional efforts now that augmented reality (AR) is expected to receive much more attention in the coming years. As usage habits change, 3D digital initiatives are expected to fundamentally alter the marketing and promotional landscape. 

To provide further insight on this, Snap recently collaborated with Breakthrough Research to carry out a study on how customers perceive augmented reality (AR) and the likelihood that AR experiences would affect their purchasing behavior.

As per Snap:

“Across 7,500 respondents in US, UK, DE and covering shopper journeys within the Auto, Beauty, Entertainment, Fashion Retail, and Travel verticals, we uncovered how consumer attitudes and behaviors towards brands shift when they imagine themselves going through a shopper journey with AR as a part of it.”

The response data reveals that customers are enthusiastic about the potential, with augmented reality (AR) able to assist consumers in making quicker decisions and possibly more purchases as a result. 

Similar findings are shown in the data for the fashion vertical, where AR is expected to lead to a $11.2 billion rise in spending. 

To put it another way, the improved AR experience gives online shoppers additional information, which may be very helpful in comforting them or simply by adding context that drives value in the transaction.

According to Snap, these findings demonstrate that AR has progressed beyond its original use case. 

Although Snapchat initially designed Lenses as a playful, engaging method to improve how we connect with our friends and family, the technology has developed into a completely functional tool that brands can use to make an impact on their companies. 

Due to the impending move toward AR-enabled glasses and the interaction with 3D virtual objects in both the metaverse and AR experiences, marketers should be taking this seriously. It makes sense for brands to at the very least start aligning their processes with this transformation.
